Ceramic Floors
Properly installed, ceramic tile will outperform and outlast nearly any other floor covering product created for the same application. Though the green movement has recently hit the flooring market, ceramic tile—made of clay, porcelain, and even concrete, as well as other naturally occurring minerals—has long been considered environmentally friendly. Not only is this flooring option practical, it also offers limitless design possibilities in color, style, shape and finish, giving you the opportunity to create a very personal design statement.
Laminate Floors
For those looking for a more cost-friendly option, laminate flooring can be a relatively inexpensive and easy-to-install alternative to traditional wood. Today's wood-look laminates have come a long way from the bland, fake-looking selection of oaks in various shades of medium brown. Flooring manufacturers are keeping pace with the trend toward exotic woods and unique finishes, offering realistically distressed surfaces, beveled edges, unusual wood grains, and colors that range from near-white to deep chocolate-brown.
Wood Flooring
Everyone loves natural wood floors, which not only look beautiful, but also increase the value of your home. Hardwood floors come in virtually any kind of wood imaginable, from classic North American species such as oak, cherry and walnut to exotic woods such as fruitwood, merbau and teak. Environmentally conscious options include flooring made from trees grown in sustainable forests; reclaimed flooring, which displays imperfections that add a unique patina; and bamboo, which is actually a grass, but is very durable. If you want to install new wood floors, be sure to choose a wood that meshes with the style of your home or the style you aim to create.
KITCHEN
1. Keep appliances classic.
You can never, ever go wrong with a stainless steel finish. Outfit a white kitchen with top-of-the-line appliances to anchor the room. The long-lasting nature of this subtly glossy finish is both timeless and modern—and it'll work with whatever color palette you choose.
2. Deepen the accents.
Without contrast, a monotone space can take on a boring, flat look. Pepper in a few deeper tones, like matte black or rich copper, to keep a white space from feeling too clinical or overwhelming. Perfect spaces to play: the faucet, lighting fixtures, and flooring.
3. Look up.
An unexpected approach to adding a pop of color? A ceiling that’s been turned into art. Get creative with the literal white space above the kitchen, which, by the way, makes up one-sixth of the whole room. If you're using paint, go for a low-gloss finish to conceal flaws and age, and keep in mind that darker colors tend to make a ceiling feel lower.
4. Choose your countertops wisely.
The most popular choice for countertops in classic white kitchens is Carrara marble with gray veins, but keeping the stone stain-free requires extra attention and work. Consider other options, such as durable quartz and soapstone—both look refined and can transform an all-white kitchen.
BATHROOM
Long are the days where you hide behind a wall or door when getting ready for work or a big night out. It's all about the open concept, with the exception of where you handle your private business. We personally love the idea of an open bathroom and have applied this in several of our projects. The use of steel or privacy glass as a barrier is important, but ultimately, showering and getting ready in the open air is awesome. That is the trend happening in the residential interiors world now days.
White and grey marble continue to be strong, popular materials into 2019 for bathrooms and kitchens alike. They are classic and timeless, can go from traditional to modern in terms of aesthetics, and are also great for resale. Man-made materials, such as quartz and porcelain tiles that look like natural stones, are also workhorses from a durability perspective and will continue to be popular in the new year.
No more tiled, grouted shower floors and visible drains! Beautiful plumbing fixtures still deserve to shine, but the pedestrian drain is becoming invisible: now walk-in-showers can feature a luxurious floor surface of large marble slab that acts to hide linear drainage lines beneath. Sandblasted for a non-slip surface, the full marble floor is a bespoke detail that feels so luxury beneath book-matched walls
We'll see the use of concrete application in sink basins, countertops, floors and walls. It's really exciting to see a brutal material mixed with organic elements. Traditionally, concrete has been viewed as cold and non-welcoming, but I'm of the mindset that marrying this utilitarian medium with woods, steel, porcelain and resin is what you guys are going to see surface in 2019 across all design aesthetics
DOORS
Wooden doors, metallic doors, fences
Insideout interior doors come in a dazzling array of styles and colors. Choose from French, panel, bifold, barn or pocket doors. There are dozens of pre-painted colors to choose from, and all doors come primed so you can paint them for yourself if you want. Material types to choose from include composite, fiberglass, or hardwoods like
mahogany, cherry, and oak. There are three standard sizes to choose from, or you can
customize in ½” increments.
All doors are a breeze to install and come with all necessary screws, as well as
pre-attached steel hinges in the optimum configuration. Replacement doors are available for damage or marring that occurs during shipment, and a limited warranty covers normal wear and tear on frame, hinges, and door surfaces. Choose from many styles including French and barn door. Pre-painted or pre-primed surfaces available. Available in hardwood or composite. Easy to install.
WINDOWS
Besides providing welcome views of the outside world, properly installed windows can help keep utility bills under control and deliver the natural ventilation your home needs. Before you go shopping for new windows, here's a rundown on the basic components to help you talk the talk:
1. Rail: Horizontal members of the sash, rails fit between vertical components of a window. Every window has a top and bottom rail; rails located at the center of a doublehung window opening are known as "meeting rails." 2. Jamb, Jambs are the main vertical members that form the sides of a window. 3. Stile, Stiles are the main vertical members in the framework of a sash, found at the sides of a window. 4. Glazing (Or Lights): Glazing is a term used for the process of mounting glass into windows and doors and also refers to the glass or plastic panes themselves. 5. Side Casing: The decorative trim, exposed framing or molding—on either the inside or outside—that covers the space between the side of the window frame and the wall. 6. Stool: ::he interior shelflike piece also known as the sill. 7. Apron/Skirt: An inside horizontal trim board that lies flat against the wall under the stool/interior sill extension. 8. Head Casing: The finish trim at the top of a window frame that covers the space between the top of the window frame and the wall (like the side casing). 9. Muntin: Individual pieces of a decorative grid installed on the exterior or interior of a window or sandwiched between the panes on thermal windows. These secondary framing components help hold window panes in the sash and divide a window opening into smaller sections. (Not to be confused with mullions, which are vertical members that divide closely spaced windows.), 10. Sash: The frame of the window that actually holds the glass in place, a sash consists of rails at the top and bottom with stiles at the side.
ELECTRICITY AND LIGHTING
1. Distribution Switchboards:
Distribution switchboards, including the Main LV Switchboard (MLVS), are critical to the dependability of an electrical installation. They must comply with well-defined standards governing the design and construction of LV switchgear assemblies
A distribution switchboard is the point at which an incoming-power supply divides into separate circuits, each of which is controlled and protected by the fuses or switchgear of the switchboard. A distribution switchboard is divided into a number of functional units, each comprising all the electrical and mechanical elements that contribute to the fulfilment of a given function. It represents a key link in the dependability chain.
Consequently, the type of distribution switchboard must be perfectly adapted to its application. Its design and construction must comply with applicable standards and working practises.
